Christmas Feeding Program

Eco Trust Society, on December 20, 2015 ventured to provided meals to the less fortunate, homeless and needy children.

In keeping with the giving spirit of the Christmas Season and Expressing our understanding of man being apart of the environment.

Small gifts, party bags and food were given to the children in the Tigerbay and in the Leopold street area along with a few words of encouragement and environmental awareness.

We also provided hot meals to homeless folks at Bourda, Public Building and the People’s parliament and in Tigerbay.

Ecotrust world food day food drive report

In celebration of World Food Day 2014, on October 16, EcoTrust Society held a food drive where fruit salads were distributed to the needy and less fortunate. The fruits selected and prepared were all local fruits, being relevant to this year world food day theme “Family Farming: Feeding the World, Caring for the Earth“. The food drive occurred at 6:30pm at the Germans Restaurant, 9 Mundy Street, North Cummingsburg, Georgetown, Guyana.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations estimates that there are about 805 million hungry people in the world.

This means they regularly do not have enough food to live an active life. Even higher is the actual number of hungry people in the world, when including those who face seasonal food shortages or those who do not eat a varied a balanced diet containing sufficient amounts of proteins, carbohydrates and vitamins.

Even though EcoTrust society food drive was a one day event, it provided a healthy serving of fruits to go with the soup and food distributed.

At about 6:30pm, children and members of the less fortunate community started to come out in number with their bowl and waited to be fed. By 8:00pm, they all had a satisfying bowl of soup or two together with the 40 cups of fruit salad that were prepared to be distributed.

The owner of the restaurant, Mr. Clinton Urling, along with Chontelle Sewett and Joel Simpson, members of the local social change organization, Blue CAPS, also came out and participated in the activity.

Ecotrust Society President Inaugural Speech 2014

It is with great enthusiasm and zeal, that I accept this position as President of the School of Earth and Environmental Science EcoTrust society.

First of all, I would like to thank the Immediate Past President, and the Executive Committee for leading the club to achieve yet another successful year. The team has left quite an order for the new team to fill.

This new team hope to take you through a fun, fulfilling and friendly year. Fun whether it be sports, career day or any other activity we will have a hell of a time!

Fulfilling the achievements that we are aiming for, the memorable experiences, time spent together and networks created.

Friendly, we are a family in SEES, with a mutually supportive environment where we aim to create and promote social cohesiveness. EcoTrust society is the tree within Sees that connects and holds us together as a family. With buttresses bonds that will last and be cherished throughout our lives.

So Seesars as a united front, using the academic, professional and civil resources that we have, we will be researchers, we will be advocates,

We will defend the environment and ensure sustainable development. Our voice will be loud and our pens louder! We cannot make a better past, but we can make a better future. As an Environmental Society we need to be vigilant.

We live in an era where environmental issues are prominent in society. From Guyana’s low carbon development strategy, to the clean up Guyana campaign. We have duties to ourselves, our nation and the world to be actively involved.

Duties that we do not grudgingly accept, but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge as academics and filled with energy as young people knowing that there is nothing more satisfying, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task. Making a positive impact on campus and nationwide as we climb to greater heights.

Let it be said in the years to come that we did not turn back nor did we falter; but with eyes fixed on the horizon and as my good friend Jévanah would say “God’s grace upon us”, we will carry forth that great gift of a green environment and deliver it safely to future generations.

I would like to give special thanks to Miss Simmons for her support, to Mr. Joshua Griffith acting President of UGSS, the media Mr Duncan, Everyone who came out to this morning’s event, and especially my executive team. Looking forward to your continued participation and support.

Eco-Trust – Inauguration of the President & Members

Eco-Trust Society on September 23, 2014 inaugurated its new board of executives in a small exquisite formal ceremony.

The Guest speaker, University of Guyana Student’s Society (UGSS) President (ag.) Joshua Griffith swore in the new executives. He encouraged the new executives stating that, “You have done a lot but there is more to be done. The campus is waiting on you to make an impact. You owe it to yourself to leave your mark on this society right now. So I am charging you Eco-Trust to do more, to make a change, to be the change so that generations to come will remember this Eco-Trust body.”

Eco-Trust new President Adrian Inniss said to those gathered that, “This new team hopes to take you through a fun, fulfilling and friendly year. Fun whether it be sports, Career Day or any other activity we will have a hell of a time fulfilling the achievements that we are aiming for, the memorable experiences, time spent together and networks created.”

Year Representatives: First year – Bonita Davis, Second Year – Damali Seepaul, Third Year – Onyali Forbes, Fouth year – Sarah Henry.
