Caribbean Urban Forum 2021 - Call for Abstracts

The University of Guyana (UG), Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, will be the lead host for the 10th Caribbean Urban Forum (CUF 2021) to be held from 16th to 18th June 2021. Co-hosts include the Caribbean Network for Urban and Land Management (CNULM) based at the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago; the Central Housing and Planning Authority; the Guyana Planning Association; and other national, regional and international organizations. This will be a virtual Forum and brings together urban planners, environmental experts, municipal managers, community developers, policymakers, academics and allied professionals to address urban issues in the region.

The Caribbean Urban Forum (CUF) is a three-day virtual conference designed to address specific policy issues within the Caribbean urban sector. It brings together land use practitioners, policymakers, academics and allied professionals interested in urban and land management issues within the Caribbean to further advance land use planning and urban management within the Region. The conference not only supports the collaborative efforts of planners in the Caribbean and wider America’s region but across the globe.

The CUF 2021 theme is Urbanization: Processes, Policy, and Emerging Challenges. The focus of the conference is to confront the issue of urbanization in the Caribbean context and to critically examine the range of policy responses to this phenomenon. The dialogue starts with the recognition that the Caribbean is one of the fastest urbanizing regions in the world.

Participants are invited from Guyana and the Caribbean, the Guyanese and Caribbean Diaspora communities, and faculty and students of the University of Guyana, to participate by attending, submitting proposals to be presenters and keynote speakers, and applying to showcase work in this area. Groups, institutions, and individuals are encouraged to participate. The opportunity for engagement will be available for persons working on projects or who have ideas that could be usefully applied for community and national development.
